A Sandstone Wall Made From LEGO?

All is not what it seems in Greg Petchkovsky’s project which blends the physical and digital worlds.

A sandstone block built from lego, blending real objects with 3d prints from Greg Petchkovsky on Vimeo.

If you’ve ever wondered how the digital and physical worlds can seamlessly coexist together, then look no further than this project from Greg Petchkovsky. It blends objects from the real world with 3D prints to create eye-turning hybrid sculptures, like a sandstone wall that looks like it’s made from LEGO.

To achieve this inventive use of technology Petchkovsky took photos from various angles of a missing part on the corner of a sandstone wall, then using 3D photoscan software he recreated the corner and filled in the chipped part using 3D modeling, augmenting it with colored LEGO bricks. Then he 3D prints it and goes and makes the world a better place.

The result is a piece that is part prank, part magical intervention. It makes you wish that this kind of thing was everywhere, it would be such a mood enhancing sight to chance across when you’re out for a walk.
