From the creative minds behind Cirque du Soleil, ETH Zurich, and Verity Studios, live interaction film, SPARKED, blurs the performative boundaries between man and machine. The video features ten drone quadcopters masquerading as colorful, dancing lampshades, and begins with a quote by science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke: “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”The magic, says Raffaelo D’Andrea, Verity Studios founder, and a professor at ETH Zurich in a behind-the-scenes video, is in the algorithms: in this case, they dynamically control the quadcopters and allow for precise movements that wouldn’t be possible with a human pilot. “We wanted to explore what could we do with an emerging new technology and give it some meaning, give it some magic and bring it to another level,” says Welby Altidor, the Executive Creative Director of Creation of Cirque du Soleil. The result is a charged, thrilling look at the possibilities for drone use in performances.Check out the behind-the-scenes doc on Sparked: A Live Interaction Between Humans And Quadcopters, as well as some of our favorite moments from the film, below:h/t DesignBoomRelated:Choreographed Robots Are Tap Dancing Their Way Through LondonAn Obstacle Course Is No Match For This Nimble DroneReturn To Burning Man With This High-Flying Drone Tour
