Redditor Makes Michael Jordan and Stephen Curry Go Super Saiyan

Even Lebron James (finally) takes his final form.

Michael Jordan seemed to hover through the air during his game-winning shot against the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1989. "The Shot"(so famous it has its own Wikipedia page) seemed to confirm Jordan's superhumanity, untethered by the normal rules we all abide by, like gravity and hubris. Now, graphic designer and GIF artist Brian Hwang rekindles the mysticism of that moment, and takes it to its final form: Michael Jordan going Super Saiyan, exploding the ball through its hoop, and seeming to knock a dejected Craig Ehlo to the ground with pure energy alone.

With a time-intensive but gratifying rotoscoping technique inspired by Adam Philips' World Cup GIF, Hwang has also Saiyan-ified Stephen Curry, Lebron James, and Matthew Dellavedova's most intense moments from the NBA Championships earlier this month. "When thinking of each GIF to make, I look for memorable and captivating moments which show a lot of human emotion," he tells The Creators Project. While he's a graphic designer in LA by day, he's taken the summer off to explore fun projects like these GIFs—and they're exploding on half a dozen subreddits and the internet at large. Hwang continues, "The GIFs are a way of visually amplifying what's being felt and it has been a very fun creative exploration for me. The results have been beyond anything I could have imagined and I'm continuously grateful that people are interested and enjoy my GIFs."
