Giant Marionettes Storm the Streets of Perth

An 18' tall Little Girl Giant and 33' Diver Giant are showering, changing their outfits, taking bathroom breaks, and even hopping on a boat for a quick sail as they storm the streets of Australia for the Perth International Art Festival. It's all part of one sprawling narrative that follows the two oversized marionettes as they "search for each other" at the turn of the 20th century.

Created by French street theatre troupe Royal de Luxe, the giant outdoor puppet show has toured cities in Europe and South America to mark events like the 100th anniversary of the Titanic setting sail and the 20-year celebrations of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Says Perth International Art Festival director Jonathon Holloway to ABC Australia, the puppets need close to 500 people to move them throughout the city, 70 who are required to operate their machinery at any given time.

The giant spectacular concludes this Sunday, but there will be plenty more massive choreography between now and then. Check out some pictures of their public performances so far below:
