Get Lost in a Jamaican Illustrator's Pink, Marbled Dreamscape

Caribbean heat seems to melt the skin of every subject Jamaican illustrator Taj Francis draws. The Edna Manley College of Visual and Performing Arts graduate's imagination coats models and musicians with marbled paint and all the tropical colors of a dancehall party. Palm fronds, flowers, microphones, and other icons bubble up through the liquid veneer to offer more information about Francis' characters. "I intend to create worlds from my art," he tells the Jamaica Gleaner in an interview. "Something that kids who were like me can get inspired by, and help create a cycle of growth and creativity."

Francis started out making gig posters for up-and-coming acts like reggae artist Protoje in Kingston, where he went to school, and Spanish Town, where he now lives. Music lyrics and artists like Lupe Fiasco and Andre 3000 still influence his style and subject matter. Now he's designing a custom clothing line and breaking into animation, while still honing his craft as an illustrator. Get lost in his dreamy vision of humans in the Instagrams below.
