Each week we chat about the tools of the trade with one outstanding creative to find out exactly how they do what they do. The questions are always the same, the answers, not so much. This week: Nicolas Sassoon. Click here for more User Preferences Tech Q&As.
The Creators Project: Who are you and what do you do?
Nicolas Sassoon: My name is Nicolas Sassoon. I make animations and drawings on my computer. I publish most of them online through the animated GIF format. I also make site-specific projections, prints, and sculptures. I collaborate with many people, including other artists and fashion designers. I also grow aquatic plants in my basement.
What hardware do you use?
For daily use I have a Vaio laptop with a crappy power supply. I also use LCD screens, projectors, and printers on a regular basis.
What software do you use?
Most of the time I use Photoshop, Premiere, Flash, Sketch-p—occasionally I use other programs for specific projects.
If money were no object, how would you change your current setup?
I would get a new laptop and some serious LED fixtures for my aquatic plants.
What fantasy piece of technology would you like to see invented?
Is there any piece of technology that inspired you to take the path you did?
When I was 16, my older sister was dating a hacker who helped me set up my first desktop computer, mostly to play Final Doom and other games.
