Of all the installations we brought to light last year, there was one piece that blew our minds more than any other. Jonathan Glazer and J Spaceman’s physical manifestation of Ladies And Gentlemen, We Are Floating In Space, inspired by Spiritualized’s transcendant 1997 album of the same name, mesmerized us and remains in our memories as a brilliant and moving experience.
It also further amped us for their 2012 album Sweet Heart Sweet Light, which the world had been waiting for four years. That’s what we’ve been obsessing over, which is why we’re incredibly excited for the premiere of their new video “Little Girl,” which premiered today on our sister site Noisey.
After portraying the life of a transgendered stripper/parent in the first video for the album, “Hey Jane,” Spiritualized continues this theme, presenting us with another outsider character trying to get by, played by UK stunt woman Chesca Miles.
It took three days, “two crashes, a wrecked bike, a near-death tank rattle, 12 burnt out tires, a broken whipped cream charger, and a near arrest” for director Vincent Haycock to bring to life the story of this little girl, not to mention the actual action in the video—stealing from a parent, doing crazy high-speed wheelies on the autobahn, joining a group of stunt men, and partying with a biker gang. Hey, if that’s what it takes for this Little Girl to feel free, why not!
