A new interactive installation provides audiences with the satisfaction of scratching off a lottery ticket, or that Amazon gift card your Aunt gave you 2 Christmases ago, while removing the risk of losing money because, as the title suggests, there are no losers in this game. _[No Losers](https://vimeo.com/151346442)_ is a mounted 2&#x2019; x 12&#x2019; panel covered in scratch-off ink. Viewers are encouraged to use the change in their pockets, their fingernails, or credit cards to chip away at that top layer.

According to LA-based artist [Camella DaEun Kim](http://www.camelladaeunkim.com/), once that first scratch is made, the rest of the pack joins in and quickly starts to fill in the rest of the panel. It's sort of like when Jack Greer [laid a slab of wet cement](http://thecreatorsproject.vice.com/blog/doodle-in-wet-cement-at-an-experimental-art-exhibit) in the middle of the floor during an exhibition opening.

Hidden messages and graffiti doodles ripped from public restrooms are digitally imprinted underneath that first layer. So as visitors and participants scratch away, they start to uncover a new image underneath while simultaneously leaving a trace of their own, in this way the artist hopes the installation encourages participants to express their own creativity.

No Losers (2015) always begins with scratch-off ink completely covering the surface of a 2′ x 12′ panel mounted on a wall. As one brave participant starts to scratch off the surface, many other participants join in and quickly fill in the rest of the panel. This process reveals hidden messages and graffiti under the ink, but it also leave creative traces of images as the participants scratched off bits of ink from the surface. The work intentionally pushes at how technology enables us to do our own creating and how we expect to be part of the process, but also in control of it, an experience that seemed familiar to the participants.
No Losers is a physical act of creation. It is an allusion to how we connect to the Internet or social media such as Facebook or Instagram, merely to glance through the most recently uploaded photos or the newsfeeds of others. How we instantly respond to them by clicking “like,” for example, has the same level of surface gratification that comes from instantly revealing something “new” under the surface of the ink. As the title of the work suggests, unlike the real-life experience of buying a lottery ticket in this experience there are no losers. The experience is meant to be fun and entertaining.
