Robot Painter Turns Your Sleep Patterns Into An Abstract Portrait

Would this creep you the hell out?

How would you feel about a robot drawing you as you sleep? Sounds kind of creepy, but that’s the idea behind a promotional campaign from Ibis hotels. It’s not as bad as it sounds, because instead of a robot voyeur watching over you as you nod in the land of slumber, 80 sensors are embedded into mattresses in certain guest rooms. The robot will use the data of your movements, sounds, and temperature and turn it into a painting.

Articulating dreams is something we’re all used to, whether through drawing or description, but this is a new way of representing Doozeville, where your actual sleep behavior is given form. What quality that form will be is debatable, but you can see the robotic arm in action above, doing its thing.

And while robotic painting is nothing new, Patrick Tresset’s robotic arms have been sketching people’s portraits for some time, this is altogether something weirder and creepier.
