Hi, I am Pablo Jones-Soler. I am an image-maker and filmmaker based in London. I am studying illustration at Camberwell College of Arts and make up one half of a directing/filming duo with my friend Josh Greet.What kind of hardware do you use?
I have an iMac with a 2.7 gHz Intel core I-5 with 16 gigs of RAM.What kind of software do you use?
I have just finished working on a fashion short for clothing brand Illustrated People with Josh Greet and my friend Bradley Bell it was created using mainly Maya and After Effects. for more film based moving image work i use premier pro. Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign are also staple pieces of software in my life.
Probably pencils. If I didn’t have pencils I would definitely have a hard time doing any work as I would forget what I was up to.If money were no object, how would you change your current setup?
Probably get some sort of render farm get up in my studio, something that made render times embarrassingly fast. I could get a crazy graphics card or amazing screen that makes your eyes bleed but rendering times is my main quip.Is there any piece of technology that inspired you to take the path you did?
Probably when i got photoshop elements when i was still at school.
I spent the whole of my GCSE’s just sticking cars and stuff on other things heads then writing on the in ghastly panic and grunge bruiting the shit out of them.What is your favorite piece of technology from your childhood?
I had a little Fisher-Price tape player/recorder with a little microphone that you could press a button on and speak into and you’d get this crazy feedback and I think i was pretty into that.Also either my N64 or Game Boy. I spent ages playing Pokemon. I think Pokemon Snap, where you basically ride around an island on a little train taking pictures of Pokemon. Might have been my first taste of making images digitally. You would get points for each photograph. I’d really like to play it again and see how the points worked and how closely the picture you apparently took matches with what it should intuitively be.What fantasy piece of technology would you like to see invented?
Something that could integrate the features of Maya and Photoshop, which you could then just talk to and tell it how you wanted it to behave on the internet. It could understand you with human intuition, no code language necessary. Just verbal communication like, “Make the grey thingy flip around and do some gymnastic-like moves based on the stuff you’re getting from google API.” And it would just blip it all into html. You’d go back it it be like, “Nah man, a little less bounce,” or whatever.
