Singer/songwriter/soundscraper Cameron Mesirow, mastermind and frontwoman of Glasser, just released A Flaw in the Flatscreen, a strange and slightly ominous short film extension of her 2010 album, Ring. The film, directed by friend and filmmaker Tati Barrantes sees Mesirow acting out nine short captivating sequences, each a vignette meant to represent a track on the album.Mesirow, looking ghostly in all white, sways and contorts in a dark, hazy space made ambiguous with atmospheric lighting and projections. Abrupt cuts and extreme close-ups on dirty feet and head swaying movements disorient the viewer, lending the film an experimental, artsy vibe. This seems fitting given Glasser’s sound and Mesirow’s composition and recording techniques. She’s also no stranger to artsy collaborations, having previously worked with her good friend artist Tauba Auerbach on the tandem organ instrument, Auerglass.
