Urban grids unravel into stark geometric cityscapes in creative studio Atelier Olschinsky’s latest series of illustrated abstractions, GROUND ZERO. Similar to the studio’s pixelated, post-apocalyptic Alienated series, GROUND ZERO visualizes an infrastructural afterlife, as captured from above. In some scenes, edifices waver in a visual limbo of growth and decay—simultaneously stripped to their bony foundations while also layered with shells of scaffolding. In others, the skyline seems to have been captured through an aerial x-ray, revealing the city’s architectural ghostly innards.

Peter Olschinsky and Verena Weiss—the design duo behind Atelier Olschinsky—shared the following quote with The Creators Project, as a poetic accompaniment for their newest deconstructed metropolis:

"It's creepy, but here we are, the Pilgrims, the crackpots of our time, trying to establish our own alternate reality. To build a world out of rocks and chaos. What it's going to be, I don't know. Even after all that rushing around, where we've ended up is the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night. And maybe knowing isn't the point. Where we're standing right now, in the ruins in the dark, what we build could be anything” — Chuck Palahniuk, Choke.

Below, escape the boring linearity of reality in Atelier Olschinsky’s GROUND ZERO:
