Haunting Portrait Series Juxtaposes People with Plant Life

'Treeheads,' the fictional hybrids in Cal Redback's darkly poetic images, are exactly what they sound like.

French photographer Cal Redback combines humans and plants to create the surreal portraits in his photo series, Treeheads. The works cover a wide span of elements, from fire, to flora, to fauna, and their effects fall somewhere between ethereal and haunting.

The juxtaposition of portrait and plant are so tactfully blended that they disorient the viewer, inviting sci-fi enthusiasts and surrealists alike into Redback's expertly-manipulated world.
