This post originally appeared on Creators.Hayao Miyazaki turned 76 last month, and late last year announced his return to the throne of Japanese animation as he began working a new feature length film. In celebration of his accomplishments, the Spoke Art Gallery in San Francisco is hosting An Art Show Tribute to the Films of Hayao Miyazaki, with works from over 50 international artist working through a wide range of mediums. Spoke Art is a bicoastal arts organization known for throwing fan-art exhibitions like their reoccurring Bad Dads show of works inspired by Wes Anderson, or this Bob's Burgers themed show. Although the Miyazaki tribute is set to open next month, the people at Spoke Art gifted Creators an exclusive early look at the show in honor of the man's birthday.

Among the participating artist are Tom Eglington, JAW Cooper, and Samantha Mash. Adam Ziskie's traditional Sailor Jerry-style illustration sees an infected and beat-down Ashitaka sitting lifelessly on his elk steed. Known for her demonic geisha-like wall murals, bay area street artist Lauren YS imagines a badass, almost steampunk-esque Princess Mononoke leaning on her mother dire wolf, covered in Miyazaki-themed tattoos. But not every piece is an illustration: Artist Matt Ritchie submitted one of his signature wood block ornaments depicting a blue rendered No Face entrenched with headpiece of Haku the dragon on his torso.
