Cyriak's New Video Tells the Story of Capitalism with Loose Change

The story of life on Earth is co-opted by currency in the animated music video for Gong's "Occupy."

First, an explosion of change. Then, nickles, dimes, and pennies begin to orbit each other. Pretty soon, fish made out of francs are crawling out of the water and onto land, and a hydra is breathing fire from its many quarter heads. In Cyriak's new music video for Gong's "Occupy" (from I See You on Madfish), the story of the evolution of the universe is retold through currency. "the video covers 13.8 billion years of capitalism, using whatever loose change I happened to have in my pocket," Cyriak writes in his video's description. The result is nearly three minutes of psychedelic animation that co-opts Nature's story—as capitalism is prone to—into something far more sinister.
