Anish Kapoor Starts 'Dirty Corner' Instagram (and It's Exactly What It Sounds Like)

If you want to see candid photos of Anish Kapoor’s studio or how he goes about creating his impressive installations, we’re sorry but you’ll have to look elsewhere. The British-Indian sculptor is the latest high-profile artist to join Instagram, and instead of using his feed to share shots of his process or inspiration, he’s dedicated the account to dirty corners. That’s right—over on @dirty_corner you’ll find a whole bunch of dirty corners, from the absolutely filthy to the slightly more minimal.

It’s the first time the artist has publicly shared photographic work, but it’s not the first time he’s referenced dirty corners. In his performative sculpture Shooting Into Corners (2009-2013) Anish shot pellets of wax into art gallery corners, the wax gradually building up and changing form to complete the artwork. Dirty Corner is also the title of one of his publications, and, more notably, the name of his sculpture in the Palace of Versailles, which was vandalized shortly after its installation in June this year following Anish’s statement that it was intended to resemble “the vagina of the queen coming into power.”
