How do you quantify the greatest art spaces of all time? Is it by visitors, revenue, names represented, or hard data? If you can judge a contemporary art locale based on its popularity on Instagram, then we've put together the top 25 places the US of A looked at in 2016.

This analysis comes directly from Instagram, who sorted out the top contemporary art museums, galleries, and creative districts in the country, and ranked them based on the geotagged location tied to each site. The top three are urban coastal bastions of the art establishment, but the rest of the list takes us on an insta-journey from New Jersey and Florida to Pittsburgh, Texas, and Arizona.

Whether you dig through the hashtags or just swipe your own feed, there's no doubt a lot to learn about how we consume art from where we Instagram it.
