It's a Giant Flamethrowing Praying Mantis

Arcanechicanery’s metal 'Praying with Fire' sculpture will rear its head at the Maker Faire Bay Area.

A seven-foot-tall flamethrowing praying mantis by sculptor Todd Cox, a.k.a. Arcanechicanery, is coming in hot to next month’s Maker Faire Bay Area. With appendages raised to the heavens, Praying with Fire blends artistry with pure entomophobic terror as it spits streams of fire high above fairgrounds. The bug’s exoskeleton is a poetic repurposing of scrap steel, copper, brass, gears, belts, and bits—an embodiment of the artist’s goal to “reincarnate” the  “discarded and beautiful remnants of this artificially fabricated society.” To you, sweet fire-spitting sculpture, we say: flame on.
