An erotic art book tells the story of a femme desert cult, recalling the days of the Manson family and the golden age of pornography. Model and creative director Amy Hood's CULT CLASSIC book delves into the aesthetic allure of Hollywood in the 1970s and the worship cults of the day. Through a merging of fashion and art, Hood explores the iconography of the occult and its relationship to pop culture, as well as ideas surrounding voyeurism, female empowerment, and the male gaze. In addition to the highly cinematic photography series, Hood commissioned writing/analytical essays by Laura McKlaw Helms, Stacey Mark, Chava Benioff White, and Flannery Mcdermott.

The layout of the book has been described as a "Ladislav Sutnar catalog for Fiorucci" that’s been corrupted by the sinister gloom of the drug induced 60s. The book opens on two cult members as they drive through the Hollywood Hills in search of a girl to kidnap for a sacrifice ritual. Armed with a knife and gun, they tie up their victim, throw her in the back of their convertible, and drive off into the desert to meet the others. Once they’ve reached home, the other members of the cult begin to decorate their victim with flowers in preparation for the ceremony. But, as the girls sing and dance around the body, their victim grabs hold of one of her captor’s guns and shoots the cult leader dead. The members sit and mourn their fallen leader while the victim walks off into the sunset.

All of the pictures in CULT CLASSIC were shot on 35mm black-and-white and color film by photographer Madison Krieger. For Hood, CULT CLASSIC marks the debut of her new publishing company, Viscous Publications. If CULT CLASSIC is any indication, we're excited to see what else is in store.
