'Rick and Morty' Creator Justin Roiland Just Squanched a VR Studio

It's called Squanchtendo and you should be pumped about it.

Open your eyes and clench your butt cheeks because Justin Roiland—the man who animated a hybrid clone of Abraham Lincoln and Adolf Hitler getting jammed into the orifices of an alien species called Testicle Monsters—is opening a virtual reality studio called Squanchtendo. The name comes from Squanchy, one of the characters on Roiland's hit show Rick and Morty, co-created with Community's Dan Harmon, and now he's found a collaborator to launch his raunchy style into the immersive world of VR.

Tanya Watson is a veteran game designer with a decade of experience working on projects like Gears of War, Bulletstorm, and Fortnite at Epic Games. She's the real deal, and apparently has a quirky personality to match Roiland's, as her bio on the Squanchtendo site goes of on a strange tangent about a drill her father wanted for Christmas.

Roiland has been toying around with VR for awhile. According to the Squanchtendo 'about' page, the medium made him feel he could contribute to a video game industry he's been obsessed with since childhood. While Rick and Morty recently released its own VR experience through Owlchemy Labs á la their Job Simulator, Squanchtendo will be devoted to unique IP from outside of Roiland's other project. This unfortunately means a Testicle Monster simulator is unlikely, but we're still really excited to see what these two come up with together.

"We want to make stuff that people love. Games that we want to play ourselves. Experiences that we would like to be totally immersed in and enjoy for hours at a time, as well as shorter, crazier experiences that would be great to play with a group of friends or possibly with stray homeless people that you invited in so you could feed and bathe them," the duo writes on the Squanchtendo website. Right now they don't have any examples of their work other than extremely entertaining comics about the company, but that's simply because they're still building their team. The Squanchtendo launch comes with a call to action to apply for their open positions, which you can do here.
