Felix’s Machines Greet Our London Event Goers and Get Them All Aflutter

Repurposed instruments that play themselves

Because Felix's Machines couldn't attend our NY event, we were very excited to see the video above. To explain how seemingly self-animated machines work, Felix Thorn, their creator said:

"I'm just sending a midi-sequence out of a laptop straight to a midi interface that's going to a very powerful custom-built hardware unit that activates all the solar noise and various LEDs and altogether creates some very percussive noise."

Our favorite quote about these ghostly music makers is from a voice the crowd though:

"To kind of like walk in and encounter this like crazy machine which is kind of like some vintage like piece of lost world that's been invented by aliens or something, it's mind blowing. It's not the kind of thing I thought I'd encounter…It really all looks like something you'd find in an antique shop, but there's these like nuts little space age gremlins in there making it do all that IDM which is sick. I never knew you could use software to control something like this and to do this sort of thing. But I suppose that's what this whole thing is about isn't it, pushing the boundaries."

We couldn't have said it better ourselves. Who is this guy anyway? If it's you, put in a comment. For everyone else who didn't attend, check this link for oodles more from our London event.
