Disrupt Your Day with a Zen-Like "Kinetic" Sculpture

Let artist and motion designer Sebastian Murra hypnotize you with abstract sound and vision.

Everyone wants a little peace of mind. Some people get it by sweating bullets in hot yoga. Others become fun runners, gleefully jogging through craft neighborhoods in activewear. Others tune in and drop out to ASMR videos. Others meditate. Barcelona-based illustrator and motion designer Sebastian Murra, a.k.a., mu!, on the other hand, takes an audio-visual approach to brain massage. In Disrupt, Murra creates a 3D “kinetic sculpture” that moves in waves and ripples, while binaural ambient synth notes and sampled audio swirl on the soundtrack.

“DISRUPT: to cause (something) to be unable to continue in the normal way: to interrupt the normal progress or activity of (something),” Murra explains. “The main objective is to bring the individual to INTROSPECTION via the visual stimuli created by the motion of the abstraction ('looping') in a fixed plane; marked by a relaxing audio.”

Murra directed and animated Disrupt using Cinema 4D, Signal, GSG HDRI Studio and After Effects. He brought in Lucas Bolaño Rucabado to create the sound design.

“It is intended that the individual makes up his own ideas about the meaning of the video and to lose himself within his own thoughts while delighting his retina with abstract shapes & movements. That is when a DISRUPTION occurs,” he adds. “The inspiration behind this piece were ocean waves, ripples and their sounds, the subtle colors of a Caribbean sunset in Cartagena and artisans' rain-sticks melodies. With this amalgam, a ‘kinetic’ sculpture in 3D was born.”
