Pauline Hanson Has Been Invited to Trump's Inauguration

She's got a golden ticket.

Pauline Hanson has been invited to the Donald Trump's inauguration ceremony in Washington DC this weekend. Making the announcement on Twitter Monday morning, the One Nation leader seemed eager to take advantage of an, er, golden opportunity to witness history.

Would you believe it? Well, you just might. Policy-wise, Hanson and Trump share a lot of common ground. There's the shared opposition to Muslim immigration, and the proven ability to win the hearts and votes of the middle-aged white middle class.

When Trump seized victory in the US election on November 9, 2016, Hanson and her fellow One Nation senators toasted the former reality star with champagne. They even went so far as to film a Facebook Live video outside of Parliament House, while most of us took the day off to tweet profusely.

"Why I'm celebrating is that I can see that people… around the world are saying, 'We've had enough of the establishment,'" Hanson told reporters back in November. "Give people the power back to have their own democracy. I think Donald Trump will bring that to America and I can see in Donald Trump a lot of me and what I stand for in Australia. I think it's great."

Although Hanson says she's thrilled to be invited, she turned down the Donald because of local political commitments. "I think everyone knows my support for Donald Trump," the senator told News.com.au. "I was so pleased to see him win, but I think my responsibility is here first and foremost, I've always said that."

If Hanson did head over for Trump's big day, she'd have the privilege of seeing not only the inauguration of the leader of the free world, but also a free concert from the early 2000s favourite post-grunge hitmakers, 3 Doors Down. Responsible for tracks like "Kryptonite" (2000) and "Here Without You" (2003), the act as the biggest name the Trump campaign was able to draw for the occasion. Also slated to perform are the Piano Guys, a Utah-based group who gained popularity due to mums sharing their piano covers of Adele songs on Facebook.

In other words, it's destined to be a concert worth abusing your parliamentary entitlements to attend.
