Stream The New Tape from Washington DC Youth Crew Burst of Rage

Release a demo tape, cram into a van and go on a 32-date tour across the United States. Punk rock!

Burst of Rage’s new tape sounds like it was recorded in 1988. The band would say that’s a good thing. Urgent and ferocious, like many of the founding youth crew bands of the New York and Connecticut straight edge scene of the late 80s, it’s a sound that packs a powerful punch (and high kick).

Like Up Front and Wide Awake who appeared on 1988’s influential X Marks the Spot 7”, the emphasis here is on passion and energy over audio fidelity.

Led by vocalist Jack Daut, Burst of Rage is made up of members from across the United States East Coast including Maryland, Connecticut, Washington DC and Boston. The band also tour like it's 1988. This June and July they will cram into a van and travel all corners of the US on a 32 date tour with Missouri band Free At Last.

Before he jumps in the tour van we got Jack to answer some questions.

Noisey: Is it true that the band started at a Rival Mob show when one of the other bands didn’t turn up?
Jack Dault: The band started early that morning of the show. Rival Mob and No Tolerance were supposed to play two shows that weekend but dropped both. I guess you could say we started that night. They needed filler that night and I guess we were the other Mob.

You sing a song about skating down Whitney Street. Where's that and what's it like to skate?
Whitney Street, off Roseville Road in Westport, Connecticut, is a long, narrow straightaway. If you hit it around 3-5 you can see the sunset perfectly too. It starts out a nice rolling hill that sends you comfortably until the speed bump and next rolling hill. It's essentially a fun pavement roller coaster that leads to a CVS. So at the end you get a treat for taking the joy ride.

How was the transition from long time fan to performing and singing on stage in a band?
Straight up, doing a band is hands down the most fun part. It's more work, granted but it pays off. Coolest thing is having people dance to our music, I know the feeling of dancing to other's music so to see that in someone else, man there's nothing better. This is my first band too so it's all very new and super exciting

What is the best song on the new record?
“Unstoppable Truth”. It has the best lyrics, best mosh parts, best song structure, best drum fills, best bass fills, best inspiration, best all around. Take a listen for yourself and try to argue that fact. Second place goes to my secondary favorite, "Power", I started losing my voice by then, but I love that fucking song!

The tape is available now through Moshers Delight.
