Jake Fried's Intricate Layerlapses | Monday Insta Illustrator

Though his signature style of animated improv—ad libbing with just ink, whiteout, and occasionally coffee—was immortalized through (multiple Vimeo Staff-Picked) videos, Boston artist Jake Fried is dialing into some of his choicer frames as stills on Instagram. His page is a visual maze, filled with illusory tunnels and hyper detailed landscapes that are all too easy to get lost in.

"My films are not really pre-planned, they become themselves through the process of making," Fried told The Creators Project in an interview last year. "I try to let the work tell me what’s next. I fundamentally believe art-making should be a 'discovery' process, otherwise I have no interest." His Instagram captures moments of inky clarity that he has discovered throughout his four-year-long career, but also snippets from his animated work, such as his excellent portion of Dan Deacon's "When I Was Done Dying."

Today, Fried also released a brand new video called Night Vision, which you can check out below, along with some of our favorite snapshots from his Instagram feed.
