Jon Stewart's Final 'Daily Show' Desk to Be Immortalized in a Museum

Why yes, @TheDailyShow, we'll gladly take that desk off your hands. #JonVoyage http://t.co/wqsmXeKSwb pic.twitter.com/b65PmvLFqa

Beloved comedian and begrudging news watchdog Jon Stewart leaves his desk for the last time after tonight's episode of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Now, thanks to a donation from the eviscerating angel of late night comedy himself, the Newseum, whose mission is "to champion the five freedoms of the First Amendment through exhibits, public programs and education," will preserve that very desk.

Apart from being one of the most trusted news sources for America's young people, Stewart has left an indelible impression on the world of late night TV, the legitimacy of comedy in political conversation, and helped us all grin and bear it through this less than stellar decade-and-a-half.

“We are thrilled to accept the donation of these artifacts to the Newseum collection,” says Cathy Trost, senior vice president of exhibits and programs at the Newseum. “They are part of America’s cultural and media history, telling an important story about how political satire and news as humor made The Daily Show a trusted news source for a generation."

As a member of that generation, I give my own very heartfelt thanks to Stewart for making politics fun again, and for staying with us so long.

See more from the Newseum on their website. Tune in for his final show on Comedy Central at 11 PM EST. Join us in wishing Stewart off on Twitter at @CreatorsProject with the hashtag #JonVoyage.
