Indonesia's Super Soldiers Step Out of The Shadows

All over the world, the unexpected has been occurring during elections. Indonesia, being a hotbed of the absurd, is not exempt from this trend. Political stage dives, heavyweight candidates, and now the emergence of superpowered solders from the shadows to defend democracy.

Fredy Tuhenay, also know as Iwan Bopeng (Bopeng meaning 'blemish'), was riling up shit at a voting station in Matraman, East Jakarta. The heated confrontation between Iwan and Public Voting Commission (KPU) officials stemmed from his friend not being able to vote. Whether or not his friend actually got to vote, any instance of voting fraud happened, or anything else regarding the rusty bajaj that is Indonesian democracy pales in comparison to the mountain of pain that was about to befall Iwan.

"Who's was that kid?! That brat just now," Iwan shouted. "I've stabbed someone in the army, so I won't hesitate with you!"

Now why'd you got to take it there, Iwan? Why did you have to go and say you would cut a member of the military?

You can immediately feel the crowd collectively think "Oh, shit he did not just say that" as they tried to calm him down. It was too late, the video was recorded and online, and a literal army of challengers stepped up to show him the true mystical might of the Indonesian military.

In this video a member of the military shows off his Debus by taking a drill directly to his forehead without injury. Debus, is the name of special power that gives you superhuman resistance to injury, allowing you to take direct hits from a sword and tolerate intense flames without pain. This video is just one of the hundreds posted online, all trying to prove that Indonesian soldiers are the toughest in the world.

The Indonesian militaries' toughness has been the basis of many urban legends. Some say members of the Indonesian Special Forces have a form of supernatural endurance; other videos have even shown Indonesian military trainees being subjected to pressure training using live rounds. What the military lacks in technology, they make up ten fold in magical powers.

Super soldiers aside, many of these threats against Iwan are serious and mass media outlets are also perpetrators in the bullying by publishing personal information about Iwan. What should have just been a small, funny story, has turned into several threats against his life.

Iwan released a public apology to the Indonesian Armed Forces, but call-outs by these super soldiers keep pouring in. Even high ranking military officials have had to weight in and said the issue is not a big deal, and a large number of parodies have surfaced in the same format as many of the online threats, attempting to point out how petty this 'revenge' against Iwan is. If you ask me, that sounds like exactly what the secret government organizations behind the super soldier serum want you to think.
