Giant Fractured Faces Shooting into Space

New Broken Social Scene Video Uses Radical Friend’s Structured Light Software

You may not have known you always wanted an illuminated image of your face projected in 3-dimensions based on the way it was scanned by light, but now that the technology is here can you believe we lived without it for so long?

Our creators Radical Friend had the idea to harness 3-D scanning technology previously reserved for scientific lab settings for art, so they enlisted the team behind YesYesNo to help them build the software for their installation The Digital Flesh that premiered at our NY event and is traveling to the rest of our events this summer. Because Zach Lieberman is the founder of openFrameworks in addition to being a member of YesYesNo, the software they developed to create Radical Friend’s digital organism is generously available online for anyone to download.

Apparently, that’s exactly what Canadian-based design collective Arts & Crafts did to create the video for Broken Social Scene’s new single, “Forced to Love.” Share the knowledge, share the love. Check back in with us to see the interactive site we’re developing for Radical Friend’s installation. You never know, you may be able to see your own face projected in 3-dimensions sooner than you think.
