Electrified Plants Make For Stunning Images

Sometimes it’s necessary for things to suffer in the name of art. Electrocuted Flowers by Robert Buelteman is one of these instances, as these poor innocent plants must suffer the pains of electrocution so that we may look at pretty pictures and feel happy.

For this series of photos, Buelteman used a technique known as Kirlian photography, which produces an image on a photographic plate by subjecting it to a high-voltage, namely 80,000 volts. Designboom states that the process, which can sometimes take 150 attempts, involves “whittling down foliage such as flowers, twigs, and plants with a scalpel until they are almost transparent. He [Buelteman] then lays each sample on color transparency film and covers it with a diffusion screen which is positioned on a piece of sheet metal sandwiched between plexiglas, floating in liquid silicone.”

Then electricity fries the plants and leaves the stunning-looking images below. Don’t try this at home kids.
