In a hypnotic fusion of sound and spectacle, multimedia artist Pavel Kiselev explores the aesthetic makeup and psychological impact of news broadcasting in his new animated video collage, News. The video is the latest addition to Kiselev's New Message series, currently on view at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art. Where, in the original exhibition, the artist questioned the way in which we consume visual art, in this new video collage he specifically looks at the way we absorb the news.

Kiselev, in conversation with Creators over email, the artist explains that the majority of people learn about the rest of the world through public newscasting. It's important to him that we consider the way in which this information is conveyed, as it's the basis of our world view. The layers in his sculptural composition are a video mix of found TV news segments from various countries around the world. "I wanted to display the global information field," he tells Creators. Kiselev said he also built the sound field on the principle of collage, interweaving seemingly random conversations with sounds recorded from a specific city.
